Here are our top places for a family walk this summer…

Brecon Beacons National Park

The Brecon Beacons is famous for its breathtaking views and natural landmarks. Whether you fancy a walk up the mountains or a walk along the waterfalls, there is even a waterfall you can walk behind. The Lady Falls waterfall is a 6-metre-high waterfall that falls perfectly for you to take a walk behind the water. The Brecon Beacons is the perfect picture of Wales. From herds of sheep to stunning waterfalls, the Brecon Beacons are full of things to explore and sights to see.

Yorkshire Coast

The Yorkshire coast is a gorgeous picturesque place filled with sandy beaches and clifftops, perfect for a walk along the coastlines of Yorkshire. The smells of the sea air and the sound of seagulls chirping create a memorable experience.

Hadrian’s Wall Path

Take a trip back to the Roman era while you walk along Hadrian’s Wall Path. Built during the 2nd Century of AD, Hadrian’s Wall Path is an 84-mile-long stone wall built by the Romans to defend their land. Walk all the way from the south to the west coast of England, although it's probably best to do it in stages. Hadrian’s Wall Path is one of England's historic landmarks, so take it in.

The Ridgeway

If Hadrian’s Wall Path was not far back enough in time for you, then why not travel back to prehistoric times? Walk along the same paths as the dinosaurs and our ancestors that came after when you walk along Britain’s oldest road. We don’t know exactly when The Ridgeway was built but we know it’s been there long before our time as human beings, making it an incredible piece of the world’s history.

Choosing the right shoes for a long walk

The shoes you choose to wear for embarking on a long walk can make or break your experience. When it comes to walking a distance, a one size fits all approach can be detrimental to your experience. Choosing the right shoes for a long walk is essential for ensuring that you are comfortable and safe. For example, if you are trekking across rocky terrain, it’s best to choose shoes that have a strong grip.

Things to consider:

  1. Durability

  2. Traction

  3. Breathability

  4. Water-resistance

  5. Comfort/support
